Starting this March, the new rules for the so-called saved seeds will take effect. The practice is for the farmer to save a part of his production for use in the following year. This is a common procedure and a farmer’s right, but it must be exercised following some rules and registration procedures established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).
There was already a decree regulated by Law 10.711/2003, which was modernized and reduced bureaucracy.
